Massage

Massage is perhaps one of the oldest healing traditions. Many cultures - including the Ancient Greeks, Egyptians, Chinese and Indians - were convinced of the therapeutic properties of massage and used it to treat a variety of ailments.

The skin is the largest organ of the human body and is packed with nerve endings.

Massage works by soothing soft tissue and encouraging relaxation. Massage is especially effective in treating 'vicious cycle' complaints. For instance, a tension headache is often self-sustaining because the pain makes the sufferer clench the affected muscles even harder. This, in turn, creates more pain. Massaging neck and shoulder can release muscle tension and break the pain cycle.

A range of disorders:
Modern studies have shown that massage can be used to successfully treat a variety of disorders, including:

  • Anxiety
  • Arthritis
  • Back, Neck, Shoulder and knee pain
  • Chronic pain
  • Constipation
  • Depression
  • Emotional Traumas
  • Headache
  • High blood pressure
  • Insomnia

It is also reported to ease or manage cerebral palsy, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, muscle spasms and sports and other injuries.

Sports Massage

Sports Massage is designed to promote flexibility, prevent and relieve injuries and conditions that are associated with exercise.  It is a form of massage which is typically used before, during and after athletic events and helps to prepare the athlete for peak performance, drain away fatigue, relieve swelling and reduce muscle tension.

The main purpose of sports massage therapy is to help alleviate the stress and tension which builds up in the body’s tissue during physical activity.  Where minor injuries and lesions occur, due to overexertion and/or over use, massage can break them down quickly and effectively.  The massage will help prepare you for peak performance and achievement, whether you are an athlete or a once a week jogger.
